Read 2 Timothy2: 20-21
“In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.” (NLT)
Paul speaks about noble use and common use. I have wrestled with this verse over the years. The utensils are referring to people. Some are designed for noble causes and some for common use. I want to be noble. I do not think anyone sets out in life and states, “I want to be common!”
“If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean.”
And then it hit me. You get to choose. You can choose to be a special utensil by choosing a pure life; Pure meaning wholesome and untainted by immoral choices and immoral lifestyles.
What do you think of when you hear that word? In our culture of instant gratification and mass acceptance of not offending anyone, we have lost the meaning for pure. As a society, we often follow what is popular and taint our souls with beliefs and morals that damage us.
Or we simply choose the path of least resistance and choose nothing; and by doing that we choose a passive and non-influential life.
So I challenge you, set yourself apart. Do not be like popular culture and simply accept everything as to offend no one. Stand up for what you believe in and use your voice for good.
God has a plan for your life. You were made and created. Use your life to make a difference. Be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.
Father God, You created me for a purpose. You have a plan for my life. Help me to be pure and honorable in my thoughts and my actions. Open my eyes to see where I have accepted values that are not Yours. I pray that you will give boldness to stand up for purity in my own life. Help me to choose and live out a pure lifestyle.
